Evan Taucher: Pioneering Classical Guitarist and Educator

Evan Taucher has emerged as a prominent figure in the world of classical guitar, making significant contributions as both a performer and an educator. Born in Tampa, Florida, Taucher’s musical journey began with the electric guitar in high school. However, it wasn’t until his second year of college that he discovered his passion for classical guitar, a revelation that dramatically shaped his career trajectory.

Early Life and Education

Taucher’s late start in classical guitar did not hinder his rapid progress. Initially pursuing business studies, he was inspired by his musically inclined peers at Florida State University (FSU). He began classical guitar lessons at the age of 19 and quickly fell in love with the instrument. His dedication and hard work paid off, leading him to study under Bruce Holzman at FSU, where he completed his undergraduate degree.

Taucher’s pursuit of excellence took him to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he earned a Master’s degree studying with Cuban virtuoso René Izquierdo. He furthered his studies in Spain, obtaining another Master’s degree from the University of Alicante and earning the prestigious Magellan Scholar designation. Taucher also holds an Artist Diploma from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied with Adam Holzman.

Performance and Competition

Taucher’s performance career is marked by numerous accolades. He has won eight prizes in professional competitions across the United States, including three Grand Prizes during his time with René Izquierdo. His competition successes underscore his technical prowess and interpretative skills, which he continues to refine through his performances.

Taucher has graced stages across the United States and Europe, performing at notable venues and festivals such as the Long Island Guitar Festival, the Southwest Guitar Symposium, GuitarSarasota’s Concert Series, and the Palacio del Portalet in Alicante, Spain. His ability to connect with audiences is enhanced by his vibrant online presence, where he shares his music and educational content.

Educational Initiatives and Online Presence

Beyond performing, Taucher is passionate about education. He has developed acclaimed online guitar courses with platforms like JamPlay, PickupMusic, and TrueFire. These courses cater to a wide range of students, from beginners to advanced players, and emphasize not only musical technique but also career development in the digital age.

Taucher co-founded Ex-Aequo, a nonprofit organization that promotes classical guitar and supports emerging artists. During the pandemic, Ex-Aequo hosted the largest online classical guitar competition to date and launched the “Changing the Canon” project, which commissioned new works for classical guitar and engaged in community outreach.

Future Endeavors

Taucher continues to push the boundaries of classical guitar through innovative projects and performances. His work with notable brands such as Cordoba Guitars, Logitech, and D’Addario, coupled with features in publications like Guitar Player Magazine and ClassicFM, highlights his influence in both the music and digital realms.

Evan Taucher’s journey from a late start in classical guitar to becoming an influential performer and educator is a testament to his dedication and passion for the instrument. His contributions continue to inspire both his peers and the next generation of classical guitarists.

Your next step is a real classic

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
